Absolutely love this product

Not as good as the original.

I'll start off by saying I like the new way this shield connects to the firepit frame. The hooks work much better than the Velcro straps. What the original shield did much better at was reflecting the heat. The original heat shield you could put your hand under the shield and the ground would be cold, same as the surrounding ground. This new version, this is not the case. The ground is noticeably warmer than the surrounding ground from the fire. I am disappointed. I gave it three stars because I do like the new hook system as I stated and it does reflect some heat.

Heat shield

The heat shield tends to last about a year. We use the pit quite a bit and have some really good size fires in it. As well as cooking allot of meals. The first thing to fail though are the Velcro straps. I think if these were instead some kind of clips they would hold up better. All in all we love this system we have been running it for almost 4 years!

Doesn’t completely withstand a heat from a grease bomb but still highly recommend.

I have used my pop-up pit with the heat shield setting in grass 3 to 4 inches high. Campfire burning for several hours and absolutely no damage done to the grass or earth below the fire pit. This will be my go to combination of fire pit, screen, and heat shield as long as I continue to camp. Which hopefully will be for several more years.

Now my Fireside purchase is complete. The heat blanket was not available when I purchased this brilliant portable fire pit. Now I can use the pop up in more places with complete confidence in its safety and no more scorched spots in my back yard.
